There were three trees in Mr. Tam’s garden. A Mei the adenium tree, Gugu the guava tree, and Mang Mang the mango tree. A Mei was very beautiful. Although she was tiny, she had a few silky leaves and many pink flowers. Mr. Tam often used her flowers for offerings.
Gugu was taller than A Mei. His flower was not as pretty as Ah Mei’s. But Gugu could grow many sweet fruits. Gugu’s fruit is red and soft. Mr. Tam’s loved to share Gugu’s fruit to his neighbor. He also said that Gugu’s fruit could be used as dengue fever medicine.
How great were they, weren’t they? How about Mang Mang? Well, poor Mang Mang did not have beautiful flowers. He also did not grow some fruits. Because of this, Mang Mang always sad everyday. Ah Mei and Gugu gave him such as motivation, but Mang Mang keep his sadness. He frustrated, why a mango tree can not grow mangoes, he thought. He also afraid if someday Mr Tam did not like him anymore, so Mr. Tam would cut him down.
But Mr. Tam never do that. He just let Mang Mang grew. Day by day, Mang Mang was getting bigger and taller. Although there was not mangoes on him, Mang Mang had many branches and leaves. The branches and leaves made a leave’s canopy. This canopy made Mr. Tam’s garden cooler when summer was come.
“Mr. Tam let you grow becaude of this, Mang Mang,” said Ah Mei.
“True. Do you know, without you, this garden will be very hot and uncomfortable?” Gugu told Mang Mang.
Today, Mang Mang is more happier. He might not had flowers, or fruits. But he had a comfortable canopy to protect his friends.
